Frequently-asked questions about royalty-free music from Backdrop.
Once I purchase a track from Backdrop, how am I permitted to use it?
All tracks purchased from Backdrop include a simple, generous license that allows you to use the track's contents in all sorts of ways. See the licensing page for more details, but basically, you can do pretty much whatever you want with our tracks, except resell them or redistribute them.
Can I use a purchased track in multiple creative projects?
Yes. Once you purchase a license for a track, you will receive a download link to the full-length, high-quality version. Once you have it, use it in as many different projects as you like.
Can I give Backdrop tracks to my friends, or use them for multiple clients?
No. Backdrop licenses permit use by one person or company only. If you are a contractor or consultant, we recommend you have your clients purchase tracks for themselves, so it is clear who controls the purchased license. Your friends will have to purchase their own license to publish works with our tracks as well.
How long are the tracks on Backdrop?
The complete tracks on Backdrop are all at least two minutes in length, with some going as long as three minutes or more. Track times are listed along with the titles and other information about each track before you purchase. If you like a track, but need it to be a bit longer, you can request to get a version that is extended for a small fee. Contact us with the name of the track and the minimum length you need, and we'll send you information about the cost of extending.
How do I re-download a track that I've purchased?
When you make a purchase on Backdrop, you will receive an email with a link to your downloadable full quality audio file. Save this email link, and you can reuse it if you should need to download the file again. If you have lost your link, contact us and we will help you retrieve it. The link grants access to the audio file, not an additional license to publish works using the track. Sharing this link with others will not give them the rights to publish works containing the track.
Can I download a sample file, so I can test the track in context with my video or podcast?
Yes. You may download a free preview file for testing purposes from the download sample button located next to the buy button on each track. This file is of a lower quality and will only be 30 seconds in length, but it should give you enough of an idea about the track to see if it works in context. You are not permitted to publish any works using the sample file, however.
Why don't you have any music of (Insert style here) in your catalog?
All of the music on Backdrop is composed by our in-house musicians. The catalog of tracks will grow over time, and we do take requests for particular styles of music. If there's something you want to hear that you can't find on Backdrop, contact us, and we'll do our best to accommodate. You can also have a track composed specifically for you, as a unique soundtrack for your project. Pricing for bespoke tracks depends on the scope of the request.
